Dark Skies Event: Midsummer
This July evening presents one of the year's best opportunities to witness the summer Milky Way arching across Rappahannock's pristine night sky. Just two days after the new moon, conditions will be ideal for observing our galaxy's core, along with summer globular clusters and nebulae. The session begins after sunset (8:27 PM).
The Rappahannock County Recreational Facilities Authority, jointly with the Rappahannock
League for Environmental Protection, will sponsor two short presentations.
*The first presentation will highlight the key elements of a template for outdoor lighting ordinance drafted by the Dark Sky Association that certified the County Park as a Dark Sky Park in 2019.
*The second presentation, “What’s Up” will be offered by James Granahan (Northern Virginia
Astronomy Club). James will explain where to find celestial objects that are available for
observation in July.
Following the presentations, all are invited to observe the night skies with available telescopes.
The Park is open until 2 hours after sunset
