Where Community & Nature Thrive Together

Welcome to Rappahannock County Park—7.3 acres of natural beauty, recreation, and dark skies that belong to all of us.

Our Story

What began in 1978 as a simple vision has evolved into something special—a community treasure where people of all ages come to play, explore, connect with nature, and with each other.

The Rappahannock County Recreational Facilities Authority was established by the County Board of Supervisors to create a space that truly serves our community. Our mission? To own, maintain, operate and improve this park for the enjoyment of every resident. But we're more than just caretakers of land—we're dedicated to inspiring a passion for parks, healthy lifestyles, and environmental stewardship throughout our county.

Who Makes It Happen?

Behind every trail, court, and garden is a story of community commitment:

What We've Accomplished Together

Our little park packs in remarkable experiences thanks to people who care:

  • International Dark Sky Designation — One of the few places on the East Coast where you can clearly see the Milky Way

  • Native Plant Sanctuaries — Gardens that support local wildlife and showcase the beauty of plants that belong here

  • Bluebird Trail — Volunteer-maintained nesting boxes helping these beautiful native birds thrive

  • Sports & Recreation Areas — Well-maintained courts and play spaces for all ages

  • Accessible Natural Areas — Trails and riverside spaces that connect people with the natural world

  • Community Events — From stargazing nights to the annual Fodderstack 10K race

Why Parks Matter

When you visit our park, you're not just enjoying a scenic spot—you're experiencing the beating heart of what makes a community strong

  • Health & Wellbeing — Spaces to walk, play, and breathe deeply in our increasingly indoor world

  • Connection to Nature — Opportunities to witness the seasons change and remember our place in the natural world

  • Community Building — Where neighbors meet, children play together, and friendships form

  • Learning & Wonder — Informal classrooms where curiosity leads to discovery for all ages

  • Local Pride — A shared treasure that belongs to all of us and reflects our values
