Perseids Aftermath: Late Summer Meteor Watch
Join the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection for a special late summer dark sky event focusing on late-season meteor activity following the Perseid meteor shower peak. Beginning at 8:00 PM (just after sunset at 7:54 PM), this event offers excellent viewing conditions with the new moon ensuring dark skies. While the Perseids' peak will have passed (August 12-13), sporadic meteors often continue, offering chances to spot "shooting stars" against our pristine dark sky.
Expert astronomers will guide you through summer constellations, the Milky Way, and highlight notable deep sky objects through telescopes. Learn about the importance of preserving dark skies for nocturnal wildlife and future generations. The event takes place in designated park areas as outlined in our Dark Sky Park Protocol. No pre-registration is required. Weather cancellations will be posted on the park website.
