Moonlight Magic: Exploring Earth's Nearest Neighbor

The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection presents a special lunar-focused astronomy event at Rappahannock County Park. Beginning at 8:15 PM (just after sunset at 8:12 PM), this evening offers a unique opportunity to observe the nearly full moon's craters, mountains, and "seas" in stunning detail. Unlike our typical dark sky events, this session celebrates our closest celestial neighbor when it's most prominent in our night sky.

This guided educational program will include information about lunar features, the moon's effect on Earth, and the importance of protecting our dark skies despite necessary moonlight observations. The event takes place in designated park areas as outlined in our Dark Sky Park Protocol. No pre-registration is required, but all park regulations must be followed. Weather cancellations will be posted on the park website.
