Equinox Skies: The Changing Celestial Landscape

The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection presents a special astronomical event celebrating the changing seasons as we approach the autumn equinox. Beginning at 7:15 PM (just after sunset at 7:11 PM), this evening offers superb dark sky conditions with the new moon providing maximum darkness. September presents a unique opportunity to observe both late summer features and emerging autumn constellations in a single evening.

Expert astronomers will guide you through the night sky, pointing out seasonal transitions, highlighting special deep sky objects, and providing telescope viewing opportunities. Learn why protecting dark skies is crucial for wildlife, human health, and preserving our connection to the cosmos. The event takes place in designated park areas as specified in our Dark Sky Park Protocol. No pre-registration is required. Weather cancellations will be posted on the park website.
