Dark Sky Event: Equinox Skies

The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection presents a special astronomical event celebrating the changing seasons as we approach the autumn equinox. Beginning at 7:15 PM (just after sunset at 7:11 PM), this evening offers superb dark sky conditions with the new moon providing maximum darkness. September presents a unique opportunity to observe both late summer features and emerging autumn constellations in a single evening.

This event will begin at 7:15pm with two short presentations:
Joyce Harman: “Art and the night sky - a look at how the night sky has influenced art through the ages”.

James Granahan (Northern Virginia Astronomy Club): “What’s Up”." James will explain where to find celestial objects that are available for observation in September.

Following the presentations, all are invited to observe the night skies with available telescopes.

The event takes place in designated park areas as specified in our Dark Sky Park Protocol. No pre-registration is required. Weather cancellations will be posted on the park website.
